A dormant volcano towering at 19,341 feet — Kilimanjaro is every hiker’s dream. Africa’s highest peak rises dramatically from the Tanzanian plains, its glaciated summit visible for hundreds of kilometres.

The ascent passes through five distinct climate zones, from lush rainforest to alpine desert to the arctic summit crater. The feeling of reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise, watching the shadow of the mountain stretch across the clouds below, is something that stays with you forever.

Each zone reveals a completely different world — the dense forest echoes with colobus monkeys, the moorland opens to giant groundsel and lobelia, and the high arctic summit is silent, windswept, and utterly surreal.
